The aggressor country of the Russian Federation buys microchips from manufacturers from the Netherlands.
Trade with Moscow continues despite sanctions imposed against Russia. From the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russian troops in Ukraine and until December 2022, a million Dutch-made chips were sold to the invaders. This is evidenced by the results of a journalistic investigation conducted by NOS.
Despite tough sanctions, microchips from Dutch companies still end up in Russia. We are talking about millions of pieces from the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine to December inclusive, investigators say.
Journalists studied trade data and confidential documents and talked with representatives of the companies involved in these agreements. Thus, they figured out how microcircuits end up in Russia.
It turned out that the illegal scheme is being implemented because of a small group of companies from China. It is the Chinese who buy chips in the Netherlands and then resell them to Russia. It is noted that exports have not been destroyed, despite the strengthening of Western sanctions against Russia.
According to NOS, Moscow is buying chips from NXP and Nexperia, the two main Dutch manufacturers. In particular, chips manufactured by NXP were recently discovered on the battlefield in Ukraine.
It is noted that representatives of manufacturing companies do not understand what is happening. They make sure that they carefully check their customers.
Recall that the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine stated that Russia continues to buy microchips with GLONASS support thanks to numerous front companies and distributors. Chips for Russian missiles are produced by companies from the United States, Switzerland and Canada.
