Ukraine must be able to defend itself against Russia’s brutal aggression, the Belgian Prime Minister said.
Belgian Prime Minister Alexandre de Cros announced the strengthening of military support for Ukraine and the provision of the largest aid package to date. He wrote about it in Twitter on Friday, January 27th.
“Ukraine must be able to defend itself against Russia’s brutal aggression. That is why Belgium is increasing military support for Ukraine with the largest aid package to date. Ukraine is winning this war. Our security and our value is also at risk,” said the prime minister. .
In turn, the newspaper HLN, citing the same Alexander de Cros, reports that it is a package for a total value of 92 million euros.
“In general, our country has already provided (Ukraine – ed.) military aid worth 146 million euros. Today, the Council of Ministers decided to send Ukraine a new package of military aid worth 92 million euros,” he said.
According to Belgian Defense Minister Ludewin Dedonder, these are air defense missiles, anti-tank missiles, machine guns, grenades, ammunition, trucks and armored vehicles.
He added that some of them will be taken from warehouses of the Belgian Ministry of Defense, and some will be bought from private companies.
Belgium is also allocating 69 million euros of humanitarian aid for Ukraine.
In addition, Alexandre de Cros said that Russian assets worth 58 billion euros have been frozen in Belgium.
“An investigation is currently underway to determine how this money can be used for reconstruction in Ukraine,” he said.
Earlier in January, President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed Ukraine’s defense needs with the Belgian prime minister.
It has also been reported that Belgium will supply underwater drones to Ukraine.
