One person died and two were injured this Friday in an attack by a gunman on Embassy of Azerbaijan in Iran, according to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
“On January 27 (…) there was an armed attack on the embassy Azerbaijan in Iran. A man armed with a Kalashnikov assault rifle killed the security chief of the diplomatic mission.
Two other embassy guards were injured, but their condition is assessed as “satisfactory,” the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said, noting that the investigation into the incident continues.
According to the chief of police of the Iranian capital, General Hossein Rahimithe attacker was arrested.
This was reported to the agency correspondent by a high-ranking official. tasnim that the attacker entered the embassy with two children and that, according to the first elements, “his motive was personal and family problems”.
Complicated relations between Iran and Azerbaijan
Relations between Baku and Tehran have traditionally been difficult. Azerbaijan, where Turkic is spoken, is a close ally of Turkey, itself a historical rival of Iran.
