The new sanctions will be one of the most difficult steps the European Union has taken in response to Russia’s military aggression on Ukraine, the newspaper reports.

Hungary and Slovakia will receive a 20 -month extension on the oil embargo against the Russian Federation. According to The Wall Street Journal, the EU agreed to such conditions when discussing the sixth package of anti-Russian sanctions.

It was noted that the new set of measures against Russia would include an oil embargo, disconnection from SWIFT of some Russian banks and new individual sanctions against Russian propagandists.

Publication sources said that on Wednesday, May 4, representatives of 27 EU countries plan to discuss the European Commission’s proposal and make a decision this week.

The main element of the sixth package of sanctions should be a ban on the purchase of Russian oil. It is planned that EU countries will abandon it within six months, and from Russia’s oil products – by the end of 2022.

Hungary and Slovakia, which have no ports and rely on Russian oil pipeline, will receive a 20 -month extension. In addition, at least two other countries have applied for a similar benefit: the Czech Republic and Bulgaria.

It was previously reported that Hungary and Slovakia, which are highly dependent on Russia’s energy resources, could be allowed not to impose an oil embargo.
