The EU has prepared a new package of sanctions against Belarus because of its support for a full-scale Russian invasion.
The proposed measures would bring sanctions against Minsk in line with many of the sanctions packages the EU has previously imposed on Russia, including restrictions on key technologies and the country’s energy sector.
Like the sanctions imposed on Russia, the proposals include exemptions for medicines, agricultural and food products. The proposed measures require the support of all EU Member States.
Bloomberg reports, in particular, on:
-
prohibition of the export of dual-use goods and technologies that can be used for military purposes;
-
sanctions on oil, coal, gold, steel products;
- measures that could hit the aviation and energy sectors;
- trade restrictions on luxury goods, the provision of certain services.
In parallel, the European Union is working on the 10th package of sanctions against Russia, as well as a price cap on Russian oil products. They want to accept both documents before the start of the oil embargo next week.
Rakurs previously wrote that the Belarusian military drove into the occupied Kirillovka. The mayor of Melitopol (Zaporozhye region) Ivan Fedorov said that these Belarusian soldiers may be employees of a private military company.
We do not know how they will cover up their participation in the war against Ukraine. Maybe they will say that these are definitely not regular troops of Belarus, but in fact they are Belarusians. In fact, they have chevrons of some Vitebsk unit or brigade. This is what our residents see,” Fedorov said.
