The Russian army launched an assault on the city of Vuhledar in the Donetsk region, since this settlement is of key importance for communications in the south of Donbass, and is the frontier for the deployment of a future Ukrainian attack on the Crimean corridor. This was announced by front-line journalist Yuri Butusov.
According to him, the capture of Vuhledar will significantly improve the strategic position of the Russian army in the Donbass and will allow to deepen the defense.
The goal of the Russian command in the 2023 campaign is to capture the entire Donbass or push our army away from the Crimean corridor. To capture Vuhledar, the Russians concentrated a formation of their best troops – a brigade of marines and airborne troops, stocks of ammunition, – Butusov pointed out.
Last autumn, Russian war criminals already tried to capture Ugledar, but stopped in the village of Pavlovka.
The Russian regular army is very sensitive to losses, and then a wave arose in the Russian media that the Russian marines were defeated, Butusov added.
He recalled that Ugledar is located on a hill, and the enemy is advancing from the lowlands.
According to Butusov, the battle for Vuhledar will determine the course of the further war in southern Ukraine.
