Sanctions against Russia could be eased if it withdraws troops from Ukraine and returns illegally occupied territories. This was stated by US Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland during a hearing on countering Russian aggression in the Senate.
Nuland believes that a possible condition for mitigating some of the sanctions imposed against Russia is the withdrawal of Russian troops from all over Ukraine and the seriousness of the negotiations.
In the context of Russia’s decision to engage in serious negotiations and withdraw its troops from Ukraine and return the territories, I would certainly support this (sanctions easing). I think that US Secretary of State Blinken would have done the same, – said the deputy head of the American foreign policy department.
Nuland answered questions from Senator Rand Paul, who proposed an agreement between Washington and Moscow on the mutual lifting of sanctions against Russian and American legislators.
Recall, the United States still indicates that Russia does not abandon its intention to seize all of Ukraine and does not take negotiations or other steps towards de-escalation seriously.
