The Russian diplomatic department believes that the EU’s attempt to gain a foothold in Armenia at any cost may harm the fundamental interests of Armenians and Azerbaijanis.
Moscow notes that Yerevan preferred to make a choice in favor of the EU, without bringing to its logical conclusion the work in the direction of the mission of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). This is stated in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
“We are fixing that in Yerevan, without bringing to its logical conclusion the work in the direction of the CSTO mission, they preferred to choose in favor of the EU,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement released on Thursday about the creation of a civilian monitoring mission of the European Union in the border regions of Armenia.
The Russian diplomatic department added that “if Armenia’s allies remain interested in using the CSTO’s potential, its mission can be quickly deployed in Armenia.”
According to the ministry, the EU’s attempts to gain a foothold in Armenia at any cost may harm the fundamental interests of Armenians and Azerbaijanis.
“The European Union’s attempts to gain a foothold in Armenia at any cost, to oust efforts through Russia are capable of harming the fundamental interests of Armenians and Azerbaijanis in their aspirations to return to peaceful development of the region,” the Russian diplomat. said the department.
Recall that earlier Armenia refused to conduct CSTO exercises.
And in November 2022, at the CSTO summit in Armenia, Pashinyan refused to sign the drafts of the two final documents. Here, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Yerevan interprets the work of the organization in this regard as a “fiasco”.
