German Chancellor Olaf Scholz pointed to red lines for further military support for Kyiv. Speaking in the Bundestag, he ruled out the supply of combat aircraft or the deployment of ground troops to Ukraine.
I made it clear very early on that we are not talking about combat aircraft, and I am doing the same here, – Deutsche Welle quotes Chancellor.
Scholz in the Bundestag said that the FRG would not send ground troops to Ukraine “under no circumstances.”
According to the chancellor, “this has not happened so far, and will not happen again.”
On January 25, Germany approved the transfer of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
As noted in the government, the first step is Germany to provide Ukraine with 14 Leopard 2 A6 tanks from the stocks of the Bundeswehr. Permission to transfer tanks will also be granted to other European countries. The goal is to quickly raise two battalions of Leopards.
Against the backdrop of this news, Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Andriy Melnyk appealed to the German government to help Ukraine with Tornado and Eurofighter fighters.
We need warships to protect the coast, we have a very long one. We will also need submarines to prevent the possibility of new attacks from the Black Sea,” Melnik said.
Scholz explained why he changed his mind about the “Leopards”, howling in Russia about a “new level of confrontation”
