The law on toughening responsibility for military personnel was signed by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
The document has already been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada signed by the head of state. The draft law numbered 8271 was adopted by the parliament on December 13, then the bill was sent to Zelensky for signature. He was supported by all political forces, except for Golos. The signing of the law is reported on the website of the Verkhovna Rada.
It is noted that this law toughens the punishment of military personnel for violation of discipline. It also prohibits the courts from mitigating the punishment of the military for disobedience, non-execution of orders, threats to the chief or violence against him, desertion, unauthorized departure from the military unit or battlefield. In addition, the level of sanctions for committing military administrative offenses has been increased.
The new law introduces an examination by the military service of law and order of reservists and those liable for military service with the fact of alcohol, drugs or other intoxication using technical means and tests.
As you know, this bill caused a lot of discussion in society. He was criticized by human rights activists, parts of society, and a petition on the president’s website to veto him was signed by more than 30,000 people in just a day.
However, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhny publicly supported the bill and urged the president to sign it.
Recall that the Armed Forces of Ukraine assured that “there are no waves of mobilization,” and the decision to mobilize each citizen is made after the conclusion of the medical commission on fitness for military service.
