German publications say that Berlin has approved the supply of its main battle tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Germany has decided to supply Ukraine with Leopard 2 main battle tanks. The German edition of Spiegel reported this on Tuesday, January 24.
The media said that other allies are also planning to supply Ukraine with Leopard 2 tanks from their stocks. In this regard, the German federal government plans to allow the re-export of such tanks to other states, particularly Poland.
The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday, January 24, that the United States, in turn, is considering the possibility of supplying Abrams main battle tanks. France is also considering a similar solution.
The publication believes that Germany’s decision was preceded by intensive consultations with allies, “especially in Washington.”
In particular, they noted that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had previously stressed that he was ready to supply battle tanks with other allies, especially the United States.
The media added, citing its sources, that the German Leopard tanks allegedly came from Bundeswehr warehouses.
In addition, in the future, battle tanks from industrial warehouses may also be prepared for transfer to Ukraine.
As previously reported, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that Berlin is preparing a decision on supplying Leopard tanks to Ukraine, which is “soon.”
The other day, the United States announced that news from Berlin on the issue of German tanks for Ukraine should be expected in the coming days.
