Oslo is ready to transfer eight of its tanks to Kyiv, and Amsterdam can buy the rented tanks and give them to Ukraine.
Norway is considering transferring up to eight German Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, Dagens Naeringsliv reported on Tuesday, January 24.
Media reported that Oslo could transfer up to eight of its 36 Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv.
The government also plans to decide on the purchase of new tanks.
In this regard, the Netherlands is considering the purchase of Leopard 2 tanks from Germany, which they previously leased, in order to provide them to Ukraine later. This is what the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte said in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, published on Tuesday, January 24.
“We rented them (Leopard 2 tanks – ed.), which means we can buy them. So we can donate them (to Ukraine – ed.),” he said.
According to the head of the Dutch government, if the purchase of tanks in Ukraine makes sense in a larger package with other states, such as Finland and Portugal, then “we are ready to consider this issue.”
Rutte emphasized that no final decision has been made yet.
Recall that earlier the German media reported that Germany decided to supply Ukraine with Leopard 2 main battle tanks.
We added that the government of the Netherlands is ready to consider the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.
