Russia plans to start hosting new space station in 2027, Roscosmos CEO Yuri Borisov said today.

“A key element of the Russian space program will be Russian Orbital Station (EOR), the deployment of which we have planned for 2027,” he said in an act of the Academy of Sciences Russia.

With regard to Russian participation in international space station (EEI), Borisov noted that it will last “as long as possible.”

“We have to complete the configuration work EOR“To present all the technical and economic grounds before April 12, an important date for us,” he said in connection with the first ever space flight of Yuri Gagarin.

Earlier, Roscosmos stated that it would retain its participation in the ISS until at least 2024 due to the technical condition of this space platform and the deterioration of cooperation with other international space agencies due to the Russian military campaign in Ukraine.

INVESTMENTS

According to the public procurement portal Russiathe amount of the EOR project is 2.7 billion rubles (38.9 million dollars or 37 million euros).

It is envisaged that after the launch of the first module new stationit will take a decade to complete the configuration of the new Russian orbital platform.

The last Soviet MIR station went into operation in 1986, in the midst of perestroika, and worked until 2000, after which it became uninhabited and sank in the Pacific Ocean the following year.
