Russian special services accuse imprisoned Muslims of terrorism and say Ukraine is “involved” in it.
The Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation announced the detention of six members of a cell of a political organization in temporarily occupied Crimea Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami. The latter is banned in Russia and referred to as “terrorist”. The Russian special service implicated the detainees in “recruiting Muslims.” This was reported on Tuesday, January 24, by the Russian pro-government news agency Interfax, citing the FSB.
“When coordinating emissaries of the International Terrorist Organization (International Terrorist Organization – ed.), who remain in Ukraine, these people carried out purposeful work to spread the terrorist ideology on the territory of our country,” said of service representatives.
The FSB ensures that the detainees are engaged in recruiting into their ranks “residents of Russia (the region of Ukraine occupied by the Russian invaders – ed.) from local Muslims.”
According to the service, during the searches, “a large amount of propaganda materials banned in Russia” were allegedly discovered and seized. Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islamimeans of communication, electronic media they use to carry out terrorist activities.
The report also says that the investigative unit “brought criminal charges.” However, the FSB did not specify under what articles. Moreover, the intelligence service did not reveal the identity of the detainees themselves.
As it was known earlier, on Tuesday morning, January 24, Russian security forces arrived with searches in the houses of Crimean Tatars.
