It may take more than ten years to clear the territory of Ukraine from explosive objects.
This was announced on the air of the national telethon by the press officer of the State Emergency Service Alexander Khorunzhiy, Deutsche Welle reports.
According to him, as a result of the Russian invasion, a third of the territory of Ukraine is potentially contaminated with explosive objects.
The main areas in which sappers work are Donetsk, Nikolaev, Kharkiv, Kherson regions, he stressed.
According to him, at the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia, there were about 600 pyrotechnicians on the staff of the State Emergency Service. Currently, there are already about a thousand of them, and in 2023 the number of specialists is planned to increase to 1.5 thousand.
In addition, robots are also used for demining in especially dangerous areas in the State Emergency Service.
It is noted that during the full-scale Russian invasion:
- over 316,000 explosive items have been defused;
- more than 2,160 aerial bombs have been defused;
- as a result, more than 78 thousand hectares of territory were cleared.
