The Ukrainian General Staff, in its erection by Monday morning, January 23, indirectly confirmed that Russian troops are at least close to taking Bakhmut into an operational encirclement, that is, cutting off the main roads to him.
Among the settlements in the area where the Ukrainian military repelled attacks in the last 24 hours, the village of Stupochki appeared in the morning building. This village is located on the road that connects Bakhmut with the city of Konstantinovka, which was an important supply hub for the Bakhmut garrison.
There are fights, according to the vault, and in Bakhmut itself.
At the same time, the General Staff writes in the information that in the Limansky, Avdeevsky and Zaporizhzhya directions, the Russians “conducted unsuccessful offensive operations”, and in the Bakhmut direction – “continued offensive operations.”
Attacks in Stelmakhivka and Novoselovsky, Luhansk region, were repelled. As well as Vyimtsy, Razdolovtsy, Belogorovtsy, Paraskoveevka, Bakhmut, Stupochki, Novobakhmutovka, Pervomaisky and Maryinka in the Donetsk region.
Stupochki are located on the Bakhmut-Konstantinovka highway, which Russian troops are probably trying to cut. Moreover, Stupochki are closer to Konstantinovka than to Bakhmut.
Kamenskoye in the Zaporizhia region, which the “power” appointed by the Muscovites announced yesterday was captured, is not mentioned in the construction.
The Deep State public notes that the enemy captured Krasnopolka in the Bakhmut direction. There was a video with the dead Ukrainian soldiers in this village. The village was very expensive for the Russians, but they continue to advance to the north.
Positional battles continue in Disputed and Belogorovka. The enemy is attacking Merry, Blessed and Red Mountain. There are oncoming battles in the Kleshchievka area, they write in the Deep State.
With the change of the commander of the occupying forces, there is a certain revival of the regular army units of the enemy in order to demonstrate at least something against the background of the relatively successful actions of the Wagner PPK in the Bakhmut segment. The personnel leadership of the Russian army is unprofitable for Prigozhin’s activities, so they are trying to come up with successes in Zaporozhye.
The defense of Bakhmut is a strategic operation that depletes the forces of the invaders
The ongoing defense of Bakhmut, despite heavy losses for the Ukrainian army, is a very important operation, thanks to which it is possible to contain significant enemy forces, inflict constant losses on the invaders and deplete their further offensive potential. This is stated in the report of the American Institute for the Study of War for January 22.
Among the losses of the defense of Bakhmut for Ukraine, not only the daily loss of our military personnel is indicated, but also a decrease in the potential of forces for conducting a counteroffensive in the future.
However, ISW believes the chosen approach is correct. Shackling the Russians at Bakhmut The Defense Forces achieve strategically significant results for the defense of the entire Donbass. Experts criticize the US military, which, according to media reports, is persuading the Ukrainian General Staff to retreat from Bakhmut. The Institute notes that American generals did not face similar decisions after the end of the 1865 Civil War.
ISW experts also note that even if Ukrainian forces have to move away from Bakhmut in the future, the scenario with the hostile interests of Severodonetsk and Lisichanskaya is likely to repeat. In the summer, after several months of stubborn defense, the Ukrainian forces withdrew in an organized manner from the destroyed cities, and the invaders, after seizing the ruins, were unable to continue the offensive due to huge losses.
