The Kremlin has likely deployed an air defense system in Moscow to boost Russian support for the war effort and subsequent mobilization through the absurd portrayal of Ukraine as a threat to Moscow.
Other findings of the American Institute for the Study of War in a January 21 report:
- the “Wagner” group tries to present itself as an effective parallel military structure, thus increasingly becoming a parasitic paramilitary organization;
- seeking legal recognition for Wagner could provoke a further split in the Russian government;
- Russian and Ukrainian troops continued offensive operations in the area of Svatovoe and Kremennaya;
- Russian troops continued their offensive on the front line in the Donetsk region;
- the occupiers in the Zaporozhye region are still preparing for a defense operation in the long term;
- mobilization in Russia continues, despite numerous announcements about its official completion.
