In the Kyiv region, about 20 houses were flooded due to rising water in the Desna River caused by an ice jam. This was announced on Saturday, January 21, at the Kyiv OVA press service.
It was noted that on January 20, the State Emergency Service of the Kyiv region received information about the formation of an ice jam on the Desna River near the village of Zazimye, Brovarsky district.
“As a result of the ice jam, water rose in the area of Zazimye, Pukhovka and Rozhny settlements. Flooding of about 20 households in nearby gardens was recorded,” the report said.
OVA added that a headquarters has been deployed to relieve the congestion, and monitoring of the Desna water area is underway.
On the night of January 21, sappers carried out a series of explosions in the ice jam near the villages of Pogreby and Zazimye. The goal is to lower the water level and prevent flooding in coastal areas.
The IVA warned that work could continue to weaken the ice.

Earlier in the Kyiv region, four children fell through the ice, two of them died.
