There have been no border problems with Russia, which cannot be said about the border with Belarus, said Maris Kuchinskis.
Latvia has an action plan in case Russia announces another move, threatening a wave of new refugees trying to cross the border. This was said in an interview with LETA by the Minister of the Interior of Latvia, Maris Kuchinskis, adding that his country will not allow these Russians on its territory.
According to him, this plan was tested to a certain extent on the Latvian-Belarusian border.
“Latvia has accumulated a lot of experience, and the “training” organized by the Belarusians benefited from the professionalism of the Latvian services,” he added.
The Latvian official added that so far only isolated incidents have been recorded in Latvia’s territory bordering Russia, but they are under control.
“However, the same cannot be said about the Belarusian border. It is very rare that there is a morning when the report column on attempts to cross the border illegally is zero. Perhaps it will be so as long as the Lukashenka regime is remains in power. Moreover, it cannot be said that Russia is also not involved, because now we see how people trying to cross the border fly to Minsk from Moscow, and then they are taken to the border,” added Kuchinskis.
The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Latvia emphasized that recently law enforcement agencies also have to deal more often with the disinformation of Belarusians on Telegram channels.
As you know, the support provided by Latvia to Ukraine amounted to 0.93% of the country’s GDP, or more than 314 million euros.
Of this amount, approximately 300 million euros are government aid, and the rest are funds donated by Latvians.
