It is planned to build two AP 1000 power units at the Khmelnytsky NPP site using the technology of the American company Westinghouse.
The Government of Ukraine has decided to start the construction of two AP 1000 power units at the Khmelnytsky NPP site using the technology of the American company Westinghouse. This was announced by the Minister of Energy German Galushchenko, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
“By doing this, we will finally abandon Russian nuclear technologies in our nuclear power industry,” the minister said at a briefing.
It is reported that the development of a feasibility study for the construction of blocks, as well as procedures for the certification of technology in Ukraine and the adoption of a law necessary for the implementation of the project, will begin now.
Galushchenko said that the source of financing is the funds of NNEGC Energoatom and credit funds.
The minister also confirmed the previously announced cost of building one such power unit at $5 billion. He said that both units will be built in parallel, as it is more economically viable.
According to the minister’s forecasts, the construction can be completed in approximately 2032.
Earlier it was reported that the SBU was conducting security measures at the Khmelnytsky NPP.
