The confiscated assets will be handed over to the State Department in the coming weeks or months for transfer to Kyiv.
US authorities plan to begin transferring confiscated Russian assets to Ukraine in the coming months. This was said by Andrew Adams, head of the task force of the US Treasury Department on the detection and confiscation of illegally obtained assets, reports Ukrinform.
Adams recalled that at the end of December, the US Congress passed, and President Joe Biden signed the law, a funding law for the federal government, which, among other things, authorizes the Justice Department to transfer the confiscated assets to the State Department to send them to Ukraine.
“This… allows us to hope that we will see the first delivery [конфискованных активов] from the Justice Department to the State Department in the coming weeks and months,” Adams said.
He also clarified that the Congressional bill does not apply to all confiscated assets, in particular, does not apply to funds seized for violating export controls.
The representative of the Ministry of Justice added that the amounts are incomparably small compared to the damage caused by the aggressor country in Ukraine, but that “any contribution is important.”
Recall that in November it was reported that the EU countries froze the assets of the Russian Federation for 68 billion euros.
