The Abrams will be a maintenance problem because it requires special fuel, while the Leopard and Challenger have different engines.
Deliveries of American Abrams tanks to Ukraine are not yet justified due to the fact that such equipment is difficult to maintain. This was in a briefing on Thursday, January 19, said Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh.
“The Abrams is more of a maintenance issue. I mean it’s a tank that needs special fuel, while the Leopard and Challenger have a different engine, they need a diesel, they’re a bit easier to maintain, they can maneuver over large areas . , before they refuel,” Singh said.
He also recalled that the United States agreed to provide Ukraine with Bradley BMP and continues to push other countries to transfer equipment and necessary items to the Ukrainian military.
Remember, the previous day, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said he would approve the transfer of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine if the United States provided Abrams APUs.
Before that, the European Parliament called on Germany to provide tanks to Ukraine without further delay.
