Germany has succeeded in overcoming its dependence on Russia for energy resources, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Wednesday, January 18, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Ukrinform reports.
“Within a few months, Germany has made itself completely independent of Russian gas, oil and coal,” the head of government said.

He added that Germany has shown that it can be “flexible, non-bureaucratic and fast”.
At the same time, the head of government emphasized that the Russian war has made it even clearer that the future belongs to green, renewable energy. He called the transformation, the transition to climate neutrality, the main task of the century and warned against a return to the widespread use of coal and oil, because in this case the goal of preventing a temperature increase of more than 1.5% is less important. .
He informed about Germany’s plans, in particular, about bringing renewable sources to 80% by 2030, which is twice as much as today. Investments in the transition to a “climate-friendly model” for the development of renewable resources are expected in the amount of 400 billion euros for the period until 2030. Germany affirms the goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2045.
Recall that in Davos, Naftogaz agreed with the leading energy companies to reserve an additional amount of gas that Ukraine needs to complete the current heating season.
