NASA plans the first flight of an electric plane in 2023

According to the head of the agency, Bill Nelson, such aircraft will be quieter and more environmentally friendly than modern liners.

The first flight of an experimental aircraft with an electric launcher X-57 is planned to be carried out before the end of 2023. This was said at a press conference by the head of the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Bill Nelson, TASS reports.

“We are working on an electric aircraft. We will fly the X-57 this year. It will be quieter, more efficient and more environmentally friendly than modern airliners,” he said.

NASA announced work on an electric aircraft project in 2016. A test flight was planned for 2017, but has been repeatedly postponed.

To recall, NASA scientists announced the discovery of an Earth-sized planet orbiting in the habitable zone of its star.

NASA’s new space satellite, NOAA-21, launched last November, captured a stunning global image of Earth. Even the waters of the Caribbean Sea can be seen here.
