On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted to the State Duma a draft law on the termination of international agreements of the Council of Europe with respect to the Russian Federation. This is stated in the draft document presented to the speaker of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, writes European Truth.
The bill states that international agreements concluded by Russia and the Council of Europe will be considered invalid after March 16, 2022. Among them are the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, the European Convention for the Suppression of Terrorism, the European Charter of Local Self-Government, the European Social Charter and others.
It was previously reported that the Russian government invited Putin to denounce international agreements by the Council of Europe at the end of December.
Earlier it was reported that the European Union may adopt new sanctions against Belarus and Russia in February.
