A Fox News contributor said Sunday that the conservative network “has a strong desire to move on” from former President Donald Trump.
Mara Liasson, who is also NPR’s national political correspondent, made the comment during Fox News’ “Media Buzz” on Sunday.
“There’s no question that most of the conservative media — Fox in particular — has a strong desire to move on from Donald Trump,” Liasson said, “and [they] they don’t give it enough attention and airtime and ink like they used to.
He noted that some coverage of Trump’s 2024 presidential announcement by the conservative media has been less than enthusiastic.
“I think you can look at the New York Post or Fox News and remember when he announced his campaign, ‘Florida Man Announces Re-election,’ page 26,” he said.
She is not exaggerating. When Trump launched his campaign in November, the Post, part of Rupert Murdoch’s right-wing media empire, buried the story on page 26. The tabloid’s front page included a note at the bottom of the page that read, “Florida Hand. an announce.”
The Wall Street Journal, also owned by Murdoch, called Trump “the Republican Party’s biggest loser” in an op-ed after the midterm elections. Meanwhile, several Fox News pundits have suggested that Trump’s star has faded, and even Tucker Carlson hasn’t said which candidate he’ll endorse in a hypothetical 2024 Republican primary.
Murdoch has reportedly tried to steer his activities away from Trump and is instead targeting his potential 2024 rival for the Republican nomination, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
