The head of the Austrian Foreign Ministry expressed his disapproval of the exclusion of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov from the OSCE ministerial meeting in Poland.
The West needs to “maintain a sense of proportion in its relations with Russia, because it will remain part of European history and culture.” This was announced on Monday, January 16, by Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg at a conference of the French University Sciences Po in Paris, writes Kronen Zeitung.
“We should not go too far, for example, by imposing a visa ban on 144 million Russians,” he said.
At the same time, the head of the Austrian Foreign Ministry emphasized that there is no doubt in the full support of Ukraine in its struggle for sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“The brutal war of aggression unleashed by Russia is insane. But at the same time, we have to think about the day after, the week after, and the months after,” said Schallenberg, explaining that the European security architecture has to consider Russia one way or another. as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, and as a nuclear state.
In addition, the diplomat spoke out against the exclusion of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov from the OSCE ministerial meeting in Poland, calling for the organization to remain within the existing framework.
“The OSCE is one of the few remaining places where Russian diplomats are forced to sit down and listen to our arguments, our sharp criticism of Russia’s war of aggression,” Shallenberg said.
It was previously reported that Turkey has changed its position on the war in Ukraine.
It is known that Ukraine and Russia are working on a large-scale exchange of prisoners: they plan to exchange about 1 thousand people.
