The interconnector Gas Interconnection Poland – Lithuania was launched, which joined the Baltic countries in the European gas market.
Ukraine will gain access to liquefied gas terminals in Poland and Lithuania. This was announced on Sunday, May 1, by the director of Gas Transportation System Operator of Ukraine Serhiy Makogon on his Facebook page.
“Today, the GIPL interconnector between Poland and Lithuania has been launched, joining the Baltic countries in the European gas market. This is a significant achievement in the energy security of the entire region,” he said.
As Makogon explained, under such conditions it would be more difficult for Gazprom to blackmail Lithuania and Poland.
The tanker with the cargo of liquefied gas LNG for Poland, according to him, will arrive at the terminal in Klaipeda in the next few days.
“After the completion of the Poland-Slovakia interconnector this summer, Ukraine will also have access to LNG terminals in Poland and the Baltic countries,” Makogon added.
Recall that Ukraine is ready to assist Europe in power supply to reduce dependence on Russia, in return Kyiv expects to receive the amount of gas that Ukraine lacks.
