Many of the unexplained reports may be due to weather events, faulty sensors, or human misdiagnosis.
The US government is investigating 510 UFO reports, more than triple the number for 2021, and while many are attributed to drones or balloons, hundreds remain unexplained. On Thursday, January 12, ABC News reports.
It is noted that most of the new reports of UFOs come from US Navy and Air Force pilots.
Of these, about 200 have “unremarkable” explanations: they are balloons, drones, or so-called air clutter covering birds, weather phenomena, and airborne that plastic bag.
But others were not explained according to the document, the declassified version of the report submitted to Congress.
These cases are the focus of attention from the Pentagon, US intelligence agencies and NASA “not because of fears that they are alien spacecraft, but unknown spy designs from rival countries.”
“Some of these unidentified objects exhibited unusual flight characteristics or operational capabilities and require further investigation,” the report said.
Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder commented on the intelligence report. He assured that the US Department of Defense is serious about the reports of UFO sightings in space, on the ground, in the sea or in the air of the country, and also studies each message.
