Moldova does not see any process in the CIS as being in the country’s interest. The free trade zone does not work.
In Moldova, they check the suitability of staying in the CIS. This was announced by Moldovan Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu on the TV8 TV channel.
According to Popescu, several hundred different documents were signed within the framework of the CIS, and now the Foreign Ministry and other ministries are reviewing them.
“In the near future, we will have a clearer understanding of which elements of these international agreements we still need, and which have become obsolete… We do not see any process in the CIS that will be for in the interests of Moldova. This organization has become less relevant over time for us. The free trade zone does not work, there are problems with access to our goods since 2006, there are trade restrictions in relation in our exports,” he said.
Popescu also noted that since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Moldovan representatives have not participated in any meetings at the CIS level.
As for Moldova’s relations with Russia, they are maintained only at the level of embassies.
Remember, according to Popescu, Moldova will demand the withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria.
Earlier, Moldovan President Maia Sandu spoke about the country’s relationship with the Russian Federation.
