Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.) announced her Senate bid Tuesday, officially kicking off what is expected to be a crowded 2024 primary to fill a seat in California that has not yet been vacated.
Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein, 89, is running for re-election that year, but California’s longest-serving senator has not announced whether she plans to seek another term.
“I do not participate in Congress, as others often do. I use all the power I have to speak hard truths to that power,” Porter said in a video announcing his Senate bid.
The two-term Progressive representative from Orange County cited her work against Wall Street executives, Big Pharma and the oil and gas industry as reasons to support her candidacy.
“To win these battles, it’s time for new leadership in the U.S. Senate,” Porter said.
