Former President of Uruguay Jose Mujica (2010-2015) confirmed this Monday that Jair Bolsonaro is politically responsible for this Sunday’s violence when thousands of his supporters attacked the offices of the President, the Parliament and the Supreme Court in Brasilia.
“I don’t know if Bolsonaro is directly responsible, he has political responsibility for the climate that he has been creating for years,” he said in an interview with Argentine radio Futurock from his home on the outskirts of Montevideo.
He also pointed out that the storming of the institutions was carried out by “blind fighters” who were used as “cannon fodder” by people who acted to “create chaos that would drive out Armed forces from the barracks.
In addition, he insisted that the acts of violence had “nothing spontaneous” or that they were “improvisation” but “something contrived, built from fanatical labor that can be directed.”
“This is something designed to provoke the departure of the military for a coup d’état. This is a provocative element, a starting donkey for the milikos (military) to leave the barracks. Here, people of great importance had to participate in power in Brasilia”, he claimed.
Looks like an attack on the Capitol
mujica He added that he doubted whether the former Brazilian president would return to the country and compared this Sunday’s invasion to what happened in US Capitol supporters of the former president Donald Trump.
“Behind my back was (instigation) a pen Trump. Here in this case there is a perennial pen. This is very serious, very dangerous,” he concluded.
