Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was admitted on Monday to a hospital in the state Floridain the extreme southeastern United States after complaining of severe abdominal pain.
According to the Brazilian newspaper O Globo, the former president has been hospitalized at the AdventHealth Celebration Hospital, located on the outskirts of the city of Orlando.
Brazilian media reminded that Jair Bolsonaro was stabbed in the stomach during the 2018 election campaign. After this attack, he had to undergo up to four operations in Brazil.
However, the former president suffered several times from stomach pains, for which he had to be hospitalized several times, most recently in mid-November, when he was admitted to the hospital of the Brazilian Armed Forces.
This latest hospitalization of Bolsonaro comes just a day after hundreds of supporters stormed the state power headquarters in Brasilia in an episode similar to the one that took place on January 6, 2021 at the United States Capitol.
The former president’s wife, Michele Bolsonaro, has indicated on social media that her husband is “under observation” in the hospital due to “abdominal discomfort”.
Bolsonarovites blocked the roads
Some roads and highways in Brazil were blocked this Monday after thousands of radical Bolsonarists attacked the headquarters of the President, the Congress and the Supreme Court in an attempt to overthrow President Luiz Inacio Lulu da Silva.
According to the latest traffic police bulletin, several roads have already been closed, but two roads remain blocked in the municipality of Novo Progreso in the Amazonian state of Para (north) and another in Matupe, a city in the state of Mato Grosso (center).
The United Oil Workers’ Federation (FUP), a powerful trade union in the industry, said yesterday it had warned of “possible terrorist attacks” at Petrobras refineries “nationwide” based on threats circulated through social media.
Engaged security zone
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has issued a federal intervention order in the Brasilia security zone following the chaos caused by thousands of radical followers of former President Jair Bolsonaro.
Lula has appointed Ricardo Capelli, Secretary General of the Department of Justice, who will be in charge of all security in the capital until January 31 and will report directly to the president.
With the intervention, the police authorities of the capital come under the control of the controller, who, in turn, answers only to Lula.
