Six aircraft remained in the area, while a month before there were about two dozen.
At the Russian Engels-2 military airport, protective barriers appeared and the number of combat-ready aircraft was reduced. This was confirmed by Planet Labs satellite images for January 7, according to Schemes.
“There are six of them left: four Tu-95 and two Tu-160. Compared to the photos taken on December 6, 2022, when there were about two dozen such aircraft,” Schemes wrote.
In particular, Russia’s Tu-95 and Tu-160 strategic bombers are active in launching missiles at Ukraine in an all-out war.
It was also reported that the Planet Labs satellite on January 7 recorded that protective barriers appeared near the runway on the eastern side of the airfield. According to military experts, they can serve as protection against debris from suspected explosive devices.
As you know, Russia actively uses Tu-95 and Tu-160 strategic bombers to launch missiles at Ukraine.
Recall that on the night of December 26, explosions rumbled at Engels airfield, where Tu-95 and Tu-160 bombers were located. The Russian Defense Ministry reported that three people were killed in the explosions.
