The VAMPIRE missile system will help the Armed Forces of Ukraine identify enemy drones and protect civilian infrastructure.
The American company L3Harris Technologies received a contract from the Pentagon for the supply of 14 VAMPIRE missile systems for Ukraine. This was announced on Monday, January 9, by the company’s press service.
It is noted that the contract is designed for 2023, and its value is $40 million.
“The portable VAMPIRE kit will allow Ukraine’s ground forces to shoot down enemy drones and defend against enemy ground threats. The systems ordered by the Pentagon are designed to provide critical defenses which will help Ukraine defend against attacks on civilian infrastructure,” the company said in a release.
Under the contract, L3Harris will install VAMPIRE kits on vehicles provided by the US government for combat operations support on the Ukrainian battlefield. The first four systems will be delivered in mid-2023, the remaining ten by the end of 2023.
These systems are included in the package of international military aid to Ukraine for 3 billion, announced in August.
The VAMPIRE system contains a WESCAM MX-10 optoelectronic system with thermal imaging and television cameras responsible for target detection and guidance and a launcher for four 70-mm APKWS guided missiles.
Earlier, the Pentagon said when they will start preparing the Armed Forces of Ukraine to work with the Bradley BMP.
