Gunmen stormed the Tom Ikimi station in the southern state of Edo as passengers waited for a train.
In Nigeria, gunmen armed with AK-47s kidnapped more than 30 people from a railway station in the southern state of Edo. This was reported by Reuters in December, citing the governor’s administration.
The attack is the latest example of the growing instability that has spread to almost every corner of Africa’s most populous country ahead of presidential elections in February.
Police said the attack happened at Tom Ikimi Station while passengers were waiting for a train to Warri, an oil hub in neighboring Delta State. Several people were injured due to the incident.
The kidnappers took 32 people, one escaped. The police are conducting a search and rescue operation.
It was earlier reported that over 11 years, Nigeria lost $46 billion from the theft of oil and petroleum products, as well as vandalism of oil pipelines.
