In the Kherson region, an ATO veteran from the village of Abrikosovka, Nazar Kagalnyak, died as a result of torture by Russian occupiers. This was reported by Ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova.
It was reported that after participating in the ATO, Nazar Kagalnyak suffered two heart attacks and a complicated heart operation.
“The assailants abducted a man from his house, severely beat him and tortured him for being a former participant in the fighting. The assailants brought Nazar, cut off by torture, into the house. His condition has deteriorated critically, then the man was taken to a hospital in the city of Oleshki, where he eventually died, ” – said the Ombudsman in a statement.

“The torture of Nazar was a war crime, because, according to article 3 of the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War, persons not actively taking part in combat, especially members of the Armed Forces who assigned their weapons, as well as those who have ceased to take part in conflicts related to illness, injury, detention or for any other reason, should not be prosecuted, ”Denisova wrote.
The Ombudsman appeals to the UN Commission of Inquiry into Human Rights Violations during Russia’s military aggression in Ukraine with a call to take into account these facts of Russia’s war crimes and human rights violations in Ukraine.
Recall that Russian soldiers during the occupation of the village of Gusarovka, Izyumsky district, Kharkiv region, tortured and then burned three local residents.
