The HAWK missile is still in use in Europe and elsewhere, but was retired by the US Army in the early 1990s in favor of the Patriot system.

The United States plans to modernize Cold War ammunition for Ukraine, a corresponding program has already begun. This was reported by Politico, citing its sources.

Closed talks have reportedly begun in Washington to tackle Cold War munitions, with missiles for the long-outdated US HAWK air defense systems set to receive much-needed upgrades will ship to Ukraine.

It was also noted that the HAWK missiles will work in conjunction with several launchers that Spain has promised to send to Ukraine.

A source told Politico that the HAWK is still in use in Europe and elsewhere, but was phased out by the US Army in the early 1990s in favor of the Patriot system.

In addition, according to the publication, the United States is looking for ways to cut off the supply of Iranian drones to Russia.

“We are evaluating the next steps we can take in terms of export controls to limit Iran’s access to drone technology,” National Security Council spokesman Adrien Watson said.

It was previously reported that the United States is preparing a new aid package to Ukraine.
