The Ukrainian side expects the European allies to strengthen the sanctions regime against Russia, Dmitry Kuleba said.
The Ukrainian side at the Ukraine-EU summit, which will be held on February 3, will insist on the introduction of tough sanctions against Russia’s missile program. This is what Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said in an online briefing on Wednesday, January 4.
According to him, the summit will focus on strengthening sanctions against Russia.
“Here our priorities are clear: we welcome the adoption of the ninth package of sanctions in the EU, which contains some measures that Ukraine has long insisted on, at the same time, the pressure of sanctions can and should increase. And I emphasize that the main priority is strict sanctions against Russia’s missile programs,” he said.
The official also noted that Ukraine raised this issue at the end of last year.
“We have enough facts, enough information, and now the ball is on the side of the EU. All the necessary information for the adoption of sanctions that will “choke” the production of missiles in Russia, which are used for on mass war crimes on the territory of Ukraine, decisions are needed,” added the leader. He also drew attention to the need for solutions that would deprive the Russian Federation of access to dual-use technologies and goods that allow it to launch missiles.
As previously reported, in December, Russian oil exports by sea fell by almost a quarter compared to the average for 2022.
We add that the Biden administration has introduced new restrictions on the export of technology for the Russian PMC Wagner.
