Russia can help trained dolphins defend a major naval base in the Black Sea.
Submarine analyst HI Sutton, who first wrote about the United States Maritime Institute’s discovery, said satellite images taken by Maxar Technologies showed the appearance of dolphin enclosures near the port entrance. The Sevastopol base, part of Crimea that was annexed to Russia in 2014, is the Kremlin’s most important naval location in the Black Sea.
The photos show the feathers moved to the base in February as Russia prepared for an invasion of Ukraine, Sutton said. Maxar Technologies told the Washington Post He agreed with his review.

Saton added that several Russian ships were stationed in the port of Sevastopol, which was outside the scope of the Ukrainian attacks. However, ships are potentially vulnerable to sabotage or underwater attacks, and dolphins can serve as a vehicle for any Ukrainian diver.
The military has been training dolphins and other animals for decades. The Soviet Navy began training dolphins during the Cold War.
In 2019, fishermen in Norway spotted a beluga whale wearing what looked like a harness that could hold GoPro-type cameras. Later, scientists said they believed in the sound of a whale that HvaldimirHe was trained by the Russian army.
