Military support includes the transfer and repair of military weapons and equipment; military training, education and rehabilitation of soldiers.
The Ministry of Defense of Lithuania has named six main areas of military support for Ukraine in 2023.
It is noted that this is a contribution to the international fund to support Ukraine, intended to finance the purchase of heavy weapons. Military support also includes the transfer and repair of military weapons and equipment; military training and education; rehabilitation of soldiers; expert support in the field of defense reforms; strengthening cybersecurity.
According to Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anusauskas, weapons, equipment and other military support make a critical contribution to how the war unfolds.
Thus, the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense plans to purchase and transfer to Ukraine additional Lithuanian-made equipment: night vision devices, thermal imagers, and means to combat drones. In addition, it is planned to purchase additional equipment for Ukrainian soldiers. The new sets of equipment will be received by military personnel undergoing training in Lithuania.
Also in 2023, the Lithuanian army will examine additional opportunities for transferring part of its military potential to Ukraine. The additional funds could be used to repair weapons transferred to Ukraine.
Military training and education of Ukrainian soldiers will take place in bilateral and multilateral formats. In total, it is planned to train about 1.5 thousand Ukrainian military, some of whom will be trained in Lithuania as part of the EU military training mission for Ukraine. The rehabilitation of wounded soldiers will also continue in Druskininkai.
Reportedly, expert support for defense reforms will be provided along the lines agreed at the NATO summit in Madrid: long-term interoperability, institutional development, the concept of warfare, the reconstruction of military infrastructure and the development of the defense industry.
In addition, the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense will continue expert support by participating in the activities of the EU CyberSecurity Rapid Response Force and through the Regional CyberDefense Center.
It was previously reported that Lithuania will increase military support for Ukraine in 2023.
Recall that Lithuania and Iceland donated winter clothes for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
