defense Department Russia recognized the death of 63 Russian servicemen as a result of a Ukrainian missile hitting a Russian army barracks located in the city of Makeyevka, Donetsk region of Ukraine, annexed by Moscow in September last year.
“The Kyiv regime attacked the temporary headquarters of one of the Russian military units in the city of Makeevka with six US-made HIMARS missiles,” Russian command spokesman Igor Konashenkov said, saying that Russian anti-aircraft missile systems shot down two of the six shells.
According to the Ministry of Defense, “as a result of hitting four missiles (…) 63 Russian servicemen were killed.”
“The relatives and friends of the fallen soldiers will receive all the necessary help and support,” the Russian command added.
The Ukrainian command, for its part, reported the attack on its Facebook account, noting that “Father Frost packed 400 corpses of Russian pigs” in addition to more than 300 wounded.
new year explosions
Ukraine it was also hit by a spate of Russian bombing raids over the New Year’s weekend that killed at least five people.
Attacks continued on Monday in Kyiv, the capital hit by Iranian-made drones. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported an explosion in the Desnyansky district, where “a 19-year-old man was hospitalized,” he added.
Authorities later said the young man had been hit by falling debris.
Energy operator Ukrenergo said that the situation with electricity supply in Kyiv is now “complicated”, and indicated that there will be “power outages”.
Russian New Year’s attacks hit the central areas of major cities, said Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky, who called it a change in Moscow’s strategy. “Russia no longer has military targets and is trying to kill as many civilians as possible and destroy civilian objects,” he tweeted. “This is a war to kill.”
On Saturday, December 31, Russian artillery shelled a village on the outskirts of Kherson, where a 13-year-old boy was wounded.
Subsequently, Russian forces attacked the hospital where the juvenile was in intensive care. “What does a 13-year-old boy have to do with these inhumans who tried to kill him twice?” – Governor Yaroslav Yanushevich asked a question in the Telegram application.
The Russian attack damaged the Kherson hospital and left Kherson and the surrounding area without power.
In November, Russian troops withdrew from Kherson, the only regional capital they had ever controlled, but continued to bombard it.
Ukrainian authorities said dozens of people were injured in attacks that killed five in several regions.
