Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva this Sunday rescinded more than a dozen decrees signed during the reign of his predecessor, Jair Bolsonaro, in one of his first acts after taking office.
Lula, on the one hand, determined that the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU) would have to revise within 30 days the secrecy introduced for 100 years for documents and information from the public administration by the decision of the previous executive.
Besides, Lula Da Silva restored work Amazon Foundationwhile the fight against deforestation was declared by decree and the illegal mining measure was abolished.
On the other hand, the new president has suspended the issuance of new gun permits, as well as permits for new shooting clubs.
The President of Brazil has signed various temporary measures, one of which guarantees the payment of BRL 600 (€106) to families participating in the current Auxilio Brasil program, which will henceforth be called Bolsa Família; the second extends the fuel tax exemption; and the third restructures the government by increasing the number of ministries.
In addition, Lula ordered his ministers to submit proposals to exclude state-owned companies, such as the Petrobras oil company or the Correios postal service, from the privatization project.
Brazil’s new president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, made a strong environmental case in his first speech in office, promising to end illegal logging in the Amazon and protect indigenous peoples.
“We will not believe that peace will come on January 1” with the inauguration of Lula, Bolsonaro said, sobbing, and asked his supporters “not to give up and not stop the opposition”, albeit peacefully and within the framework of the constitution.
Bolsonaro went to the USA
Jair Bolsonaro visited the United States last Friday, shortly after addressing his followers and calling for fierce opposition to the next government. “I’m leaving, I’ll be right back,” the former president of CNN Brazil said. Thus, he avoided participating in the inauguration of his successor, Lula da Silva.
Bolsonaro did not respect the institutional tradition of handing over the presidential sash, an almost symbolic gesture that has been respected by all presidents since Brazil restored democracy in 1985, after 21 years of dictatorship.
The government did not provide any details about the trip, but according to sources from his personal circle, quoted by the local press, he intends to spend at least three months outside the country.
