On the last day of the old year, Ukraine returned 140 soldiers from Russian captivity, including the defenders of Bakhmut, Mariupol and Serpent’s Island. This was announced by the head of the Office of the President, Andriy Yermak.
“On New Year’s Eve, we not only repelled the enemy’s missile attacks, but returned our people. This is another big exchange that we did – 140 people returned home,” said Yermak.
According to him, among those released were the wounded, as well as the defenders of Mariupol, Zmeiny Island, TPO volunteers from Slavutych, parents and children who were together in captivity, as well as soldiers from the direction of Bakhmut.
“82 fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 15 from the Troops, 22 from the National Guard, 11 from the Navy and 10 from the GNSU. 132 men and eight women, 22 officers and 118 sergeants and soldiers. As they shoot, fight we will answer and return. We will return everything. If not – No. I thank the Coordinating Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War,” the head of the President’s Office summed up.
Earlier, GUR announced the news about the exchange of prisoners. Intelligence officials say that Ukraine and the aggressor country have begun to more actively exchange prisoners. At the same time, the Ukrainian side proposes an “all for all” exchange formula.
