The department’s Ukrainian border guards received information from their Romanian colleagues about the detention of two people who illegally crossed the Ukrainian-Romanian border. The detainees reported that they were with four other men, but they disappeared from sight.
Border guards immediately organized joint search activities with their Romanian colleagues. On the first day, the search yielded no results, and the previous day, Romanian border guards reported the arrest of two of the four wanted citizens, as well as the discovery of a dead person.
“Since it was impossible to reach the place of possible stay of the fourth of the missing men from the Romanian side, the border guards made a joint decision to enter the Romanian territory from the Ukrainian side. It was reported that the search operation was greatly complicated by high snow cover and poor visibility, which prevented the use of automotive equipment.
“Once again, we urge you to refrain from walking in the mountains, where difficult weather conditions are observed: frost, snowstorms, strong winds and thick fog,” the State Border Service said in a statement.
