Kyiv and Paris have agreed to start a new training program for officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to master the new air defense system, which will be announced later.
France to supply Ukraine with new systems to protect skies from Russian strikes. This was announced on Wednesday, December 28, by Ukraine’s Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov following a meeting in Kyiv with his French counterpart Sebastian Lecornu. Reznikov wrote about it in Twitter.
“The supply of weapons and ammunition for the Ukrainian army will continue, including the efficient French systems to protect our land and skies,” Reznikov wrote.
In turn, Lecornu, in a briefing after a meeting with Reznikov, said that France has created a fund through which they will receive orders from Ukraine for the military-industrial complex.
According to him, France has already selected several areas for assistance to Ukraine.
“First, it is the transfer of the equipment of the French Armed Forces to the Ukrainian army at the beginning of next year. The second area of assistance is the European Peace Fund, which is an important instrument, strength and power of Europe to support Ukraine. France makes a big contribution to this fund – 500 million euros. And the third direction is the fund created in France, where Ukraine can meet the order with the French military-industrial complex,” said Lecornu.
He added that between the armed forces of Ukraine and France there is a constant exchange of information. Lecornu also emphasized that the experience of Ukrainian defenders is also important for the French Armed Forces. Therefore, according to him, during military exercises, there is an exchange of experience at the same time, and the knowledge and skills of Ukrainian military personnel are very important and useful.
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine informed his colleague about the current situation on the battlefields and noted that the West, and, in particular, French weapons are one of the important factors that help Ukraine destroy the enemy and protect Ukraine’s skies from Russian missiles.
“Now we are focused on the list of priorities of Ukraine to win this war. It has to do with air defense, anti-missile, anti-drone defense to protect our skies, increasing the amount of 155-caliber heavy artillery and ammunition. After all, the powerful Caesar guns used on the battlefield, they need high-quality shells,” said Reznikov.
According to him, the Ukrainian Defense Forces also need armored vehicles.
“In addition, we agreed to start a new training program for our Air Force officers to train and master a new air defense system, which we will report later. The role of the French Republic is one on the main things in the general fight against Russian aggression to protect the universal values of Europe,” he stressed. Reznikov.
Lecornu and Reznikov also touched on the issues of accounting and transparency of military aid. Representatives of the foreign delegation were presented at a briefing on the implementation of the LOGFAS logistics system, which allows monitoring the supply and movement of Western weapons and international technical assistance to Ukraine. Also, attention is focused on the issues of rehabilitation and treatment of Ukrainian servicemen in medical institutions in France and the initiation of long-term projects with French defense companies.
Recall that Lecornu arrived in Kyiv on Wednesday. This is his first visit to Ukraine since taking office in May.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron said Paris had sent Crotale rocket launchers and an air defense system to Kyiv and planned to provide a new batch of weapons and ammunition early next year. Among these deliveries, Caesar self-propelled artillery mounts (ACS) are also expected.
