The head of the Hungarian government said that peace in Ukraine “depends” entirely on Washington.
The Ukrainian people can fight as long as the US supports them with weapons and money. The issue of peace is said to depend on Washington. This is what Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in an interview with Magyar Nemzet, part of which was published on Tuesday, December 27.
The Hungarian official reiterated that Budapest, he says for the first time in 30 years, faces the risk of being drawn into a war with Ukraine. In his opinion, the increase in energy prices “is also pushing the country in a dangerous direction.”
He also believed that a ceasefire was necessary in a war, and only after peace negotiations. However, Orban made a clarification on this issue.
“Ukraine can continue fighting as long as the United States supports them with money and weapons. If the Americans want peace, there will be peace,” the head of the Hungarian government believes.
The Prime Minister also claims that Hungary is “pro-Hungarian”.
“Our answer to the question of whether we are on the good or bad side of history is that we are on the side of Hungarian history,” he said.
He also assures that “Budapest supports and helps Ukraine.”
“We are interested in the safety of a sovereign Ukraine, and we are interested in a Russia that does not threaten the security of Europe. But we are not interested in giving up all our economic relations with Russia,” Orban said.
Note that Orban has previously said that Hungary does not support sanctions against Russia, but does not veto them either.
In addition, in his opinion, the European Parliament in its current form should be abolished, since the recent corruption scandal involving several members of the EP has called into question the credibility of this institution.
