The animal has not yet been caught, but traps have been placed inside the local campus to capture it.
At least 15 people have become victims of a leopard attack near the city of Jorhat in the Indian state of Assam. Victims include forest workers, children and women. The incidents themselves started taking place from 26 December. This was reported by the local newspaper The Times of India.
A significant proportion of the cases occurred in the Rainforest Research Institute (RFRI) campus area, located on the outskirts of Jorhat city.
Forest Department officials think the animal invaded the campus in search of food from the nearby Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary.
They also noticed that the leopard often changed its location, and at night wandered into nearby villages and began attacking local residents.
“The animal has become very aggressive. We have set traps inside the campus to catch it. Efforts are on to trace it,” said Jorhat administration spokesperson Ranjit Konwar.
As we reported earlier, in the Pesochinskaya community of the Kharkiv region, law enforcement agencies caught an eight-month-old lion within five hours. He wandered between the summer cottages.
We add that in one of the villages in the Skolev region, three local residents were bitten by a marten.
