The former head of the Yanukovych-era SBU was appointed head of the “special service” of the occupied territories of the Kherson region.
The Russian occupiers appointed the former head of the Security Service of Ukraine during the Yanukovych era, Alexander Yakymenko, as general director of the “state security service of the Kherson region.” The relevant information appeared in the Unified State Register of Legal Entities of the Russian Federation.
In early August, the publication Kherson Most wrote, citing its own sources, that Yakymenko was made the head of the “special service” of the occupied territories of the Kherson region. Some sources reported this as early as June.
Now its confirmation was found in the Russian Unified State Register of Legal Entities.
The occupational intelligence service was registered on December 22, 2022 as the “State Security Service of the Kherson Region”. The Russian occupiers identified the building of the regional Economic Court at Teatralnaya Street, 18, in Kherson, as its location.
Where Yakimenko really is is unknown. The Russian invaders and their fake “officials” left Kherson before the UAF regained control of the city on 11 November.
From March 2010 to August 2011, Yakymenko served as the head of the SBU Department in Sevastopol, and from August 2011 to July 2012 – in the Donetsk region.
January 9, 2013 was appointed Chairman of the Security Service of Ukraine. Yakymenko also became a member of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
After the Maidan, Yakimenko fled to Russia. In April 2014, he was placed on the wanted list on suspicion of abuse of power or official authority. He was also accused of aiding terrorist organizations.
On February 26, 2021, he was stripped of his military rank and state honors for high treason and participation in the annexation of Crimea.
