Russian authorities are looking for Khristo Grozev on the basis of a criminal case without specifying an article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs has placed Hristo Grozev, an investigative journalist and head of the Bellingcat online publication, on the wanted list. Interfax reported this on Monday, December 26.
“The corresponding card with Grozev’s data was published in the ministry’s search database. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a Bulgarian citizen is wanted on the basis of a criminal case without specifying an article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ,” the report said.
Hristo Grozev is the CEO of Bellingcat and its lead investigator for Russia. He is engaged in the study of security threats, extraterritorial special operations and information wars. In 2019, his team received a European Press Award for investigating a 2018 crime in the UK involving a chemical warfare agent from the Novichok family.
In October 2021, the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation recognized Bellingcat as a foreign media agent. In July of this year, the Office of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation recognized the activities of the publication as undesirable in Russia.
Earlier, Hristo Grozev said who was preparing the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It was about 120 officers from the FSB Fifth Service and up to 40 from the GRU, but their predictions turned out to be an illusion.
